The Willow Project – Alaskan Pipeline

Key Facts:

Project Significance: ConocoPhillips estimates the Willow Project to produce up to 180,000 barrels of oil per day, accounting for almost 2% of the total U.S. oil production. This certainly underscores the importance of Alaska in providing US energy solutions.

Political Support: U.S. Representative for Alaska, Mary Peltola and Alaska Senator, Lisa Murkowski, have both voiced strong support for the project, emphasizing its economic benefits for Alaska and for its contribution to US national energy security.

Pipeline Infrastructure: The Trans-Alaska Pipeline System, carrying an average flow of 499,700 barrels of oil daily, relies on sturdy infrastructure to ensure efficient operation. The pipelines on the Willow Project are thoughtfully constructed at least seven feet above ground to accommodate native caribou movement.

The Role of TWS – The Welding Shop: The North Slope oilfield employs a large group of contractors and engineers working tirelessly together to make this project a reality. The Welding Shop in Fairbanks, Alaska, plays a vital role in supporting this project, calling on GRM Custom Products as a valued manufacturing partner.

GRM Custom Products’ Contribution:

GRM Custom Products, home of the original Fluorogold®, worked closely with TWS to provide our custom slide plates…. steel bonded with PTFE (often called Teflon™(a Chemours Product). Our PTFE can be virgin or with 25% fiberglass added to increase its strength. Our slide bearings help isolate the pipeline structure from foundational vibrations caused by thermal, seismic and/or environmental movements.
