1960’S – CONSUMER GOODS AND CONSTRUCTION
Teflon was developed and marketed in the US for consumer applications such as the “Happy Pan”. This was also a time when steel construction in the Civil and Petrochemical sectors was booming. Glass fibers were added to improve the structural rigidity of the Teflon.
Fluorogold® was developed by The Fluorocarbon Company of Pinebrook, New Jersey, and DuPont for use as a structural slide plate.
1970’S – ELASTOMERIC BEARINGS IN BRIDGES
Oil States Industries fabricates the first elastomeric bearing pads used in the construction of a bridge near Victoria, Texas.
That bridge and those pads are still in service today.
1980’S – FLUOROCARBON CO. MOVES TO TEXAS
Incorporating elastomeric bearing pads into the design of Fluorogold® slide bearings had become commonplace. In order to facilitate production and expand product lines, Fluorocarbon purchased Oil States Industries’ elastomeric bearing plant in Athens, Texas.
All structural bearing fabrication operations were consolidated here and the company name was changed to Furon.
1990’S – LOCAL OWNERSHIP
G. Robert (Rob) Myers, our former President, gathered a group of friends to form Seismic Energy Products, LP and purchased Furon’s structural bearings division.
Under Rob’s guidance, it showed considerable growth and vitality in the fiercely competitive markets of slide plate manufacturing, highway bridge construction, and seismic isolation.
2012 – SALE AND RELOCATION
Toward the end of 2012, Rob and his team sold the manufacturing facility in Athens, along with the “Seismic Energy Products” name, laminated elastomeric, and seismic isolation product lines.
We then relocated our slide plate product line and manufacturing operations to our current facility in Conroe, Texas, and became Slide Bearings, LP. Our company-wide focus on quality and customer service has led to sustained growth and an expansion of our product offerings.
2017 – HONORING OUR PAST AND DRIVING INTO THE FUTURE
Because our company manufactures and provides more than “slide bearings” we thought it best to become more than “Slide Bearings, LP”. We are and have always been, a custom manufacturer of structural products.
To honor the memory of the late G. Robert Myers, we are using Rob’s initials, GRM, as the main part of our name and logo. This also represents our decision as a company to carry on his vision of growth and innovation.
As GRM Custom Products, our name is a clear reflection of who we are, what we do, and how we got here.
2019 – GRM ACQUIRES DIAMOND COMPOSITE STRUCTURES (DCS)
We are excited about the addition of our Composite line of products and services. With the purchase of Diamond Composite Structures (DCS) we have increased our fabrication capabilities to include standard and custom structural products made from Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) and other composite materials.
Some examples of these products are wear pads, platforms, ladders, hatch covers, walkway grating, chemical fill boxes, and handrails, just to name a few. By keeping the former DCS team intact we also add over forty years of experience and expertise in this new line of products.
2023 – GRM earns ISO 9001:2015 Certification
ISO 9001:2015 is the worlds most widely recognized quality management standard and helps organizations meet the needs and and expectations of their customers. By achieving this level of certification, GRM has effectively demonstrated our ability and desire to utilize our quality management system to continuously improve our processes and products. This certification strengthens our commitment to our customers in only providing quality products such as the Gold Standard for PTFE Slide Plates: FLUOROGOLD, Bearing and Wear Pads, FRP Pipe Liners, and custom fabricated FRP structures such as Ladders, Handrails, Walkways and Platforms.
2023 – 2024 – GRM REBRANDING
